Appointments: Qatar Exchange names Turquoise man COO

The Qatar Exchange has appointed  Olivier Gueris as chief operating officer. Gueris specialises in setting up and running operations for electronic exchanges.

In the next 18 months, QE will be rolling out NYSE Euronext's Universal Trading Platform to replace its current electronic trading platform, along with a suite of new products.  This should enable trading of other assets such as bonds and exchange traded funds. The Euro-American exchange holds a 20% stake in QE.

Previously Gueris was head of market operations at Turquoise. He also worked as vice president for market operations at the Boston Options Exchange and was in charge of international business development for GL Trade, a global provider of trading solutions.

He was also actively involved in setting up operations for the Australian Derivatives Exchange and prior to that was the head of derivatives market operations for Euronext Paris.
