Paysafe Pulls Prepaid Product from 100 Countries
Paysafe Group reportedly is pulling the plug on its Neteller and Skrill prepaid Mastercard cards in 100 countries on Friday. The move, which affects a product popular with online gamblers, apparently does not apply to North America or the 34 countries that are part of the Single European Payments Area. But the decision does affect users in such countries as Australia, Brazil, the Philippines, Russia, South Africa and Taiwan. Skrill and Neteller both provide digital wallets, and prepaid cards are one way users can access the funds in those wallets.
Paysafe did not respond to a request for comment. The only messages so far have been emails to consumers with those prepaid accounts, according to OnlineCasinoReports.com, which said that online gamblers are the main users of the prepaid product. PokerNews published a copy of the Skrill customer letter, which indicated that although the cards won’t be usable as of Nov. 25, Skrill accounts remain fully functional and balances are accessible via bank account transfers or by sending money to any other Skrill user or online business accepting Skrill.
